The title of the work tells the story of the entrance into the world of dreams, where there is space for free interpretation.
The artist: Flavio Paolucci
After attending the Scuola Cantonale di Pittura in Lugano (1949-1953) and working at the Oscar Bölt studio in Locarno (1955), Paolucci enrolled at the Accademia di Brera in Milan (1955-57). Under the influence of Aldo Carpi, he studied Mario Sironi and Achille Funi. He made his debut with his first solo exhibition in 1958, the year in which he also won the first prize at the Biennale dei Giovani in Gorizia. In the early 60's he undertook several study trips. In Paris he won the second prize at the International Unesco Exhibition in 1961. In 1964 he lived for a year in Morocco, where he discovered a completely different dimension of space and time; in 1967 he renewed his Moroccan experience. Since 1968 he has lived and worked in his studio on the outskirts of Biasca. Since the 1970s he has received important national and international awards and his presence on the Swiss art world has become increasingly important: His first solo exhibition in a museum and the first monographic exhibition took place in 1984 (Olten, Kunstmuseum), followed by important retrospectives in Lugano (1988, 2014 and 2017), Locarno (1993) and Milan (1995). His solo exhibitions also include those at the Centre Culturel Suisse in Paris in 1987, the Kunstmuseum in Olten in 2000 and the Fondazione Ghisla in Locarno in 2018.
In the course of his artistic development Paolucci's work met several artistic influences: First he found inspiration in Sironi's art, then in the art of the Tachists in Paris and in the Second Ecole de Paris. In his works of the late 60's, Neo-Dadaist and Pop Art influences can also be seen, as well as references to the riots of 1968. It was, however, Arte Povera, with representatives such as Mario Merz and Giuseppe Penone, who played the most important role in the development of his expressive style.
His aesthetics depend strictly on his relationship to nature, as does his life. Born and raised in the Blenio valley, surrounded by mountains, he has always tried to deal with nature beyond pure pleasure, so that nature itself has become part of his art.
In different phases and ways he has integrated it into his work again and again: For example, he gave dead branches new form and life. From reliefs to sculptures, each of his works is deeply influenced by nature.
