The Art Room III: "One Night with Mickry 3"

The artists write the following about the room: „We repeatedly notice how impressed, indeed almost in love, visitors react to our studio. The romantic view of the sweet life of someone creating art finds its true form in the studio. The desire to let one’s own creativity flow freely inevitably overtakes you in this place. Everything seems possible: sawing, painting, transforming, drilling or carving. There are no limits to the urge to create. The enthusiasm for our workplace is shared equally by young and old, whether art lovers or not. The creative potential that lies dormant in each of us is gently stirred awake.
Our studio means everything to us. Over the years it has grown into what it is today, and by tomorrow it will have changed again. It resembles a sculpture in which depth and content play the central roles. We found the idea amusing to lie in a pure white bed, which comes close to a canvas, and to have everything else, from floor to ceiling, resemble a huge paintbox. Once the eye has become accustomed to the many impressions, one sees more and more sculptures woven closely into the picture.
The ‘parquet’ made of pressed wood panels was specially created for the hotel room, is a copy of the studio floor in Schlieren and is in no way inferior to it.“

Mickry 3

The female artists: Mickry 3

The artist collective Mickry 3, consisting of Nina von Meiss, Christina Pfander and Dominique Vigne, has worked exclusively as a collective since its foundation in 1998. In 2001, the artists celebrated their first success with the exhibition M3 Supermarkt. The room-filling installation included over 1000 handmade products made from paper, adhesive tape and whatever was immediately at hand. The range extended from a replacement heart to an instant friend that could be mixed with water. The work skilfully subverted the theme of our consumer society, as well as the art market itself. The works were offered at dumping prices, the message behind them being art for everyone.

In 2006 they engaged with renowned artists such as Rubens, Caravaggio and Vermeer. They adopted image concepts and motifs and set these against their own work. Copying and interpreting is a recurring aspect of their work, with the focus on reinterpreting.

Over the years, the works of Mickry 3 have continued to develop formally. What runs like a red thread through their entire oeuvre, however, is humour and a critical attitude towards society, while they are always careful to adopt a stance that is not admonishing. The artists have been members of the AZB (Arbeitsgemeinschaft Zürcher Bildhauer) since 2006. This membership led them to their studio near the city boundary. The location plays a central role in the development of the trio and is also the starting point for their most recent work at Hotel Teufelhof.
