The art room 3: "One night with Mickry 3"

The artists write the following about the room: "We realise again and again how impressed, almost enamoured visitors are towards our studio. The romantic view of the sweet life of an artist can be found in his or her studio. In this space, the desire to let your creativity flow freely comes over you inevitably. Everything seems possible: saw, paint, transform, drill or carve. There are no limits to the creative urge. Young as well as old people share the enthusiasm for our working space, whether they are art lovers or not. The creative potential, which is sleeping in each of us, is gently shaken up.
Our studio means everything to us. Over all those years it grew to what it is today and tomorrow it will have changed again. It resembles a sculpture, where depth and content play the central roles. We liked the idea of lying on a bed as white as a flower that reminds you of a canvas, and everything else, from the floor to the ceiling, is like a huge paint box. Once your eyes have got used to the many impressions, you can see more and more sculptures, which are entangled in the whole picture. The "parquet floor" of compressed wood has been created especially for the hotel room and is an exact copy of our studio floor."

The artists: Mickry 3

The artist group Mickry 3, consisting of Nina von Meiss, Christina Pfander and Dominique Vigne, has worked exclusively as a collective since its formation in 1998. In 2001, the artists celebrated their first success with the M3 supermarket exhibition. The space-filling installation included over 1,000 handmade products made of paper, tape and all kinds of things that were immediately to hand. The offer ranged from a replacement heart to an instant boyfriend, which you could mix yourself with water. Their work cleverly undercut the topic of our consumer society, as well as the art market itself. The works were offered at dumping prices. The message was art for everyone.

In 2006, they grappled with renowned artists such as Rubens, Caravaggio and Vermeer. They took over image concepts and motifs and confronted them with their own work. The copying and interpreting is a recurring aspect of their work, whereas the focus lies on reinterpretation.
The works of Mickry 3 have been continually developed over the years. The central themes of their entire work are humour and the critical attitude towards society, whereas they are always careful not to take a cautionary attitude.

Since 2006. the artists have been members of the AZB (Arbeitsgemeinschaft Zürcher Bildhauer) working community of Zurich sculptors. This membership enabled them to rent the studio near the city boundary. The studio plays a central role in the development of the trio and is also the starting point of the most recent work in the Hotel Teufelhof.
